Book review: The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad

Funny. Observant. Wise.

Book review: 3.5 stars/5

Yes, it’s the much-hyped book of 2017 by Mrs Funnybones – The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. The book is a collection of 4 heart touching short stories that will leave you wanting for more. This book with 287 pages is a light read and I managed to complete the read in less than three folds.

The first one was a short story about a high-spirited feminist girl called Lakshmi Prasad from a village far away. How one suggestion changed the lives of many girls and even put an end female foeticide in her village.

The second one was about Noni Appa. The story takes you through a life of an elderly yet young at heart sisters who have each other to accompany the rest of their life. A cute little love story that is sure to leave you with a smile.

The third story will take you into the world of a young Malayali woman whose life swings between her family decisions and multiple marriages in search for a meaning in life.

Finally, the story of ‘the Sanitary man’. For those of you who follow the Ted talks, you may have heard his story, the story of the Sanitary Man, Arunachalam Muruganantham and his innovation. Almost one-third of the book is dedicated to the fourth story

My favourites out of the lot were ‘Salaam Noni Appa’ and ‘The Sanitary Man from a Sacred Land’. Although, you may rate the writing style as mediocre, the stories have a heart and soul to them. Enjoy the read in this perfect weather with a cup of coffee in your hand.
