Weekends are more fun in Ras Al Khaimah

When you live in the UAE, Ras Al Khaimah is usually picked as a perfect hideaway destination. When you want to getaway from your bustling city life off to a place where there’s beach, a relaxing lifestyle and not many people running around – Al Marjan Island resorts are a great pick for your getaway! With a 23 km long water-frontage, the island is home to white sandy beaches and is a unique holiday destination. But when you are there, you may want to take a ride around and explore the island a little further. To be honest, not many people want to get away from their luxurious rooms, delicious food and relaxing pools. Yet, if you choose to do a little more than the usual, you could try one of these places.

1. Turtle Beach: If you reside in Marjan Island resort and spa, managed by Accor hotels like we did, you will get a chance to make the most of your beach day. The shallow waters on the shore make the Turtle beach ideal for swimming and some great family time. You can spot lots of turtles just off the island which is about a 10-minute boat ride. You could even go on a kayaking trip to the natural mangroves or even enjoy water-sports like jet skiing and so on.

2. Jais Mountains: Indulge in adventure sports like trekking, rock climbing or mountain biking on Jais mountains. If you simply want to enjoy one of the best sunrise or sunset sceneries around, this is again that kind of place. We are getting closer to winter, and nothing like this time of the year to get to the Jais mountains.

3. Al Jazeera Al Hamra: If you love spooky adventures like me, you should probably drive all the way to Jazeerat Al Hamra too. Well, to be honest, I couldn’t gather enough courage to visit the haunted city after darkness, but I did go and check the place out.

4. Archaeological sites: Every Emirate in the UAE has historical sites. Ras Al Khaimah does too. You’ll find a museum which is located in a fort that was the residence of then-ruling family until the early 1960s, and the building is about 200 years old.

Overall Ras Al Khaimah is a great weekend destination.
